This is why I love Christmastime!

IMG_6597Gingerbread cookie thief!

Christmas is my favorite time of the year.  I love the smell, food, and music.  The kids and I dug out our Christmas decorations only to find that most of it never made its way to Japan.  We had a tree and nothing but a tree skirt for it!  Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, but here on Okinawa it is!  Basically all the Christmas decorations sold out at the BX before Thanksgiving.   A rule of thumb here  is if you like it, you better buy it NOW!  I stocked up on pumpkin in August because  by October its very hard to come by.  I knew this, but I thought I was prepared with all the decorations we brought.  I scrambled to decorate our tree.  I did find my snowflake ornaments in a random easter decoration box.  We could have out Easter eggs on the tree, but I decided that needed to be the very last possible plan!  We made it work, and Kennedy’s bitty baby doll is our tree topper this year.  Pretty fun, and maybe even a little creepy!  We made due.  We made gingerbread cookies, suckers, and candy canes to hang on the tree.  I actually had to use fake candy canes because they were all sold out of the real deal!  Nathan has continued the tradition of nibbling on the gingerbread men on the tree.  The bottom half of our tree is looking bearer and bearer.  He nibbles on them, and then sets parts of them back on the tree.  I get a kick out of it.  We also strung up some gingerbread cookies in the kitchen to make a garland.  The kids were thrilled to each get a special video response back from Santa this week.  What a treat it was!  Kennedy also was a baby doll in a school musical performance this week at the BX.  So cute!

hahaha. It’s kind of funny about the doll-tree topeer:) So what do you think happened to your other Christmas stuff? I cannot believe that it’s so hard to find candy canes down there! I thought that our BX is tiny and not so great…but we have lots of candy canes, at least-hahahaha. By the way, lots of your pictures from this post are not showing up for some reason. I cannot wait to see them!:)

It looks adorable -even with having to be so creative!! These are things you will look back on and remember about your stay in Japan! Grandma obviously didn’t put enough gingerbread men in the package for Nate! Is there such a thing as enough gingerbread men for Nate-Nate? He makes me laugh! I’m still laughing about how emphatic he was with – “NO!! Don’t take cookies off tree!!!” 🙂

The gingerbread cookies are adorable! Nathan is so so cute. I could you never tell that sweet face “no”. I love that part about being Grandma! Kennedy is the cutest doll ever! I wish we could have been there for the program. Julie’s girls have a dance recital tonight, we are so excited. Natalie, your creativeness is amazing. Way to go!

I think you did a great job – all things considered! 🙂 Nate is too funny! I have a feeling little Halle girl would be doing the exact same thing this year if only we had a tree! Yes, we did open your presents before we left. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’m so excited to play our game and Jordan LOVED the guess who game. He caught on quickly and just kept on wanting to play. What a fun game – thank you! We are in Oregon now so I think we’re 17 hours different now – but I will call you soon!
