Zippie our beloved goldfish, 22 months, died Saturday March 20th, at his home of natural causes. (okay, maybe the brown water had something to do with it!)
A brief memorial service was held at the Call family home Saturday, followed by a rapid flush down the toilet.
Kennedy, age 5, stated in horror, “This is definitely not the proper place to bury Zippie. That’s where your pee and poop goes, not someone you love! We should have sent him to the ocean where his friends are!”
There is certainly a vacant spot on the piano where Zippie’s fish bowl sat. Each day,our energetic Zippie swam his heart out. He was definitely a surviver!
Several days after Zippie died, Kennedy was eating breakfast and glanced over to the piano where Zippie’s bowl used to sit. She burst into tears, and began to explain “He wasn’t supposed to die yet, we still have so much food for him!” She stretched her arms out wide to indicate the amount. I might add that it was the most sad and pathetic thing I have seen in awhile. My heart broke for my sweet little girl, but there was a part of me that giggled a little inside because she was so dramatic! With each day that passes, it makes it easier to go on without Zippie with us, but the memory will stay with us forever! Kennedy periodically comments throughout the day, “Mom, my eyes just won’t stop watering. I miss Zippie.”
One thing I am sure of, Zippie is in a much better place! Trust me, let’s just say he is one tough little gold fish!
