Friday our little Precious Princess turned 5. I am still in a bit of shock! We had a fun time celebrating. We started the day off singing, and singing, and singing! You can never hear enough of “Happy Birthday”, right!?? Especially our rendition, I assure you. Then, we ate purple pancakes. Kennedy’s were topped with cool whip, sprinkles, and a big number 5 candle, of course! As we were eating breakfast, she informed me that she would be turning 6 next. I told her that I wasn’t sure I was going to let her do that. I asked her, “Don’t you think 5 is old enough?” She replied very matter-of-factly, “Mom, it’s going to happen whether you like it or not, so you better just accept it!” So sensitive!
She was very excited to wear her birthday shirt to preschool. Later in the day, I was able to bring witch cupcakes to her class. Kennedy’s request was a hit. The kids jabbered away as they dissected and ate the witches piece by piece. One little boy in particular couldn’t stop talking about how neat they were. As you can imagine, Kennedy was feeling pretty neat. After school, we ran home and Kennedy transformed into an elegant birthday princess. I swept her off to the Olive Garden for lunch. This is one of her very favorite restaurants! The staff sang a lovely rendition of a birthday song, and Kennedy blushed the entire time! She loved every minute of it! After they left the table, she told me, “I think they could use a little more practice.” It just made me laugh!
Then, we came home for presents. I had attached each of the presents from us to a different color ribbon. Kennedy then had to follow the ribbon to discover where her gift was hidden. She loved this!!! She wants to do the same for my birthday at the end of this month. I won’t complain! ;o) She thought it was so funny when she pulled a ribbon up from behind the piano to discover that the gift had escaped! It was so fun to watch her as she burst with excitement, and enthusiasm. It was pure joy! She was so cute, and animated as she opened each gift. She would start to unwrap, and then close her eyes until all the paper was off. She would then pop her eyes open, and giggle in delight at each new treasure. It was so priceless to watch! Her happiness was definitely contagious. Well, except for Nathan. I’m not sure, but he just wanted me to hold him. Didn’t he know I had pictures and video to take!? The poor guy wasn’t quite sure why sister was bouncing off the walls! I think it freaked him out a little bit.
We ate her butterfly cake I made with pineapple sherbet. Kennedy’s favorite is sherbet. The girl loves, loves, loves it! She was enamored with the butterfly cake, and it made every little star on that cake worth it. My right forearm was sore yesterday, and it donned on me that it was probably from decorating the cake. Who says you can’t get a work-out decorating a cake. Oh, and I sprained my pinkie toe while decorating it too. It’s a contact sport! Didn’t you know? After cake and ice cream, we were ready for our “slumber party” to start. Kennedy dolled herself all up in one of the new dress-up outfits that she got. She looked fabulous! Kennedy laid back, and relaxed while we watched a Barbie princess movie. As I painted her fingers and toes, she sipped pink lemonade! I definitely pampered my little birthday princess. She loved it! I put Nathan to bed part way through the movie, and let her finish watching it. She thought she was getting such a sweet deal, but really it only bought her about 30 minutes extra! Then, off to bed. As I was tucking her into bed I asked her, “Did you have a good birthday?” She replied, “No, I had a great birthday!”

Here’s a million more pictures for our Grandparents, and especially Daddy, who didn’t want to miss a moment!

OuR LiTtLe MaN tuRnEd 1 ToDaY!

It’s so crazy how fast the past year has gone.  It doesn’t see like that long ago that we brought our sweet baby boy home from the hospital.  He has been so much fun to have in our home.  We are truly blessed to have him in our family.  We thank Heavenly Father for the little miracle that he is!Since he wouldn’t know any different, we decided to put off his Birthday Bash until the end of next month or so when Daddy would be home.  Daddy wanted to be there for his first cake and ice cream.  Can you blame him??  I jumped at the chance to spread the parties, and the cakes out a little bit!

Nathan is getting to be a really good little walker, but it’s only come after lots of practices and some bumps and bruises!  **Note the one on his head he received Wednesday  night at mutual!

  • Grandmama

You did it! Thank you, thank you! Everything turned out so great (as I knew it would)! What two little dolls! Just for the record Grandma and Grandpapa are all for holding at 5 too! 🙂 Love to all our Florida kids (& the one in Iraq too!)

  • Can’t believe you did all of that and took great pictures too! SuperMom!
Looks like Kennedy had a great day, Happy Birthday to both of your adorable kids.

  • Shanna

You are supermom! That sounds like such a fun day. The cake turned out so cute and the cupcakes are adorable, too. Too cute to eat! I’m sure the kids loved them. Thanks for posting all the pictures. We didn’t want to miss out on a minute of the fun, either! I loved all the ideas. I might just steal a couple of them someday:) It was so fun chatting with you today. Give your kiddos birthday squeezes for us!

Oh my gosh! Everything turned out so perfect! What a lucky girl to have such a super mom. And she is such a sweetheart. I love you Kennedy-girl.

I love Nathan’s faces… “What puffs? I want some of that cake!” I can’t believe he’s one already! You are definitely letting those kids grow up way too fast!

Congratulations! You have another year till you have 2 birthdays in 2 days! What a fun time. Kennedy loves every minute and you sure know how to make them special. I can only imagine that it broke their Daddy’s heart to miss all the fun. The days are counting down and I can imagine there will be plenty of party time to make up for it. We love you and miss giving hugs and kisses and “a pinch to grow on”. (A Scott family tradition.) Thanks for all the photos. I almost felt like I was there.

  • Thanks for the narrative and pictures! Can’t wait to party all over again when I get home.

That’s really funny how Kennedy closed her eyes when opening up her presents. And I’m not sure anyone could make curlers look any cuter.

And who’d of thought our wrinkly little boy would turn into such a stud-muffin one year old (other than crying like a baby while he watched his sister eat cake and ice cream).

  • Suzy

Wow!! Everything looks AMAZING!! Jared was in awe of her butterfly cake (Me too!)…He kept saying Pictures, Pictures, pictures, with a huge smile on his face!! Whew, so glad you could spread some of the festivities around!

  • Tara

Sounds like a perfect day! Can you come plan my birthday, Nat?! We sure love you, Kennedy, and are glad you’re in our family! And Nathan, too! We’ll be excited to see how his birthday party goes and how he likes cake and ice cream.
